Day 1: Gondar - Sankaber
Pick-up from Gondar Airport or your hotel and drive about 100 km (approx. 2 hrs) north to Debark, the Simien Mountains National Park headquarters. Here, permits will be arranged and a park scout will join your trek.
Continue driving for about one hour to the trailhead and begin your introductory hike along the northern escarpment. Enjoy incredible viewpoints overlooking the lowlands of northern Ethiopia and expect to encounter the endemic Gelada baboons along the way.
Overnight at Sankaber Camp.
Day 2: Sankaber - Geech
Follow the escarpment eastward, descending into the Kaba Valley before climbing to the dramatic Gich Abyss, where the Jinbar River plunges 500 m down a massive waterfall — a stunning highlight of the day.
Continue through barley fields and reach Gich Village, where you can enjoy a traditional coffee ceremony and observe local highland life. The nearby Gich Camp is an excellent spot to see lammergeyers (bearded vultures) and thick-billed ravens.
Later in the afternoon, take a short hike to Kedadit viewpoint for a breathtaking sunset panorama over the eastern escarpment. Dinner and overnight at Gich Camp.
Day 3: Geech - Chennek
Walk through open valleys covered in giant lobelia before ascending to Imet Gogo (3,926 m), one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Simien Mountains. Enjoy sweeping views of rugged cliffs, deep valleys, and surreal rock formations.
Descend into the Jinbahir Valley and then climb to a 4,070 m ridge for a scenic lunch stop. Continue on a steep descent to Chennek Camp, surrounded by dramatic escarpment scenery.
Chennek is one of the best places to spot the endemic Walia Ibex, especially at sunrise or late afternoon when they often come close to camp.
Overnight at Chennek Camp.
Day 4: Chenek - Bwahit Peak - Gonder
Start early to summit Bwahit Peak, the second-highest mountain in Ethiopia. From the top, enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding peaks and a chance to spot more Walia Ibex.
On clear days, you can see Ras Dejen (4,543 m) — the highest peak in Ethiopia. After the ascent, return to Chennek where your vehicle will be waiting.
Drive approximately 4 hours back to Gondar for drop-off at your hotel or airport.
